Gutenberg Open Science

Gutenberg Open Science is the Open Access repository of Johannes Gutenberg University (JGU) and the first port of call for your publications and research data that you would like to make freely accessible.

But the repository offers much more. By publishing in the repository, your research becomes visible worldwide and permanently available for science without access restrictions. Gutenberg Open Science is also the digital publication service for your doctoral dissertation at JGU and meets all the requirements of third-party funding providers for Open Access publications.

Your publications are available long-term on Gutenberg Open Science. They are provided with a permanent address (DOI) and you have the option of clearly regulating the rights of subsequent use, for example by issuing a CC license. All publications are automatically listed in JGU’s research information system (Gutenberg Research Elements) and sent to the German National Library (Deutsche Nationalbibliothek, DNB) for central indexing.

It goes without saying that your publications published in the former systems Gutenberg Open and Gutenberg Qualify have been transferred with full texts to Gutenberg Open Science. You can enter bibliographic data without full text directly into the research information system.

Primary or Secondary Publication?

You can use Gutenberg Open Science for both primary and secondary publication. If your publication has already been published by a publisher or elsewhere, it is often possible to make the work immediately available on Gutenberg Open Science. The prerequisite for this is that you have published Open Access with the publisher. You can also use Gutenberg Open Science in many other cases by exercising your right to secondary publication. Read our tips for authors on these topics.

It’s That Easy to Get Your Work Published

Go to Gutenberg Open Science. Once you have logged into your JGU account at your workspace, you will automatically be given access to your personal “My Open Science” area, so that you can immediately begin entering data. The “Help & Instructions” dropdown menu provides detailed, in-depth information about the publishing process.
