The Egyptological Study Collection of the Institute for Ancient Studies at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz currently includes around 40 certified plaster casts, some of which are large-format, which are modeled on ancient Egyptian originals and painted. The existing reliefs, stelae, statuettes, vessels, amulets and small-scale sculptures cover the period from around 2,500-200 BC.
Most of the casts come from the plaster molding workshop of the National Museums in Berlin and were kindly financed by the Friends of Egyptology at the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz e.V. through earmarked donations from Ulrike Jungnickel.
The purpose of the collection is to familiarize students and those interested in dealing scientifically with three-dimensional objects and hieroglyphic original texts.
