We digitize historical sources and make them available to scientists worldwide. Online, persistent, citable—with Gutenberg Capture.
Digitization is an important everyday working tool in research. Our Gutenberg Capture portal gives you immediate access to digitized source material that was previously only available in widely dispersed libraries and archives. All reproductions and indexing data are freely available and meet the criteria applied to digitization projects by third-party funding providers.
Older individual works that are needed immediately for research and teaching can be made available through a digitization-on-demand request on Gutenberg Capture. For projects, we offer cooperation in digitization and indexing.
Digitization On Demand
Books that are important to you—we make them available online! Upon request, we scan individual titles of your choice. Whenever technically possible, we also support full-text search. All books digitized on demand are available on Gutenberg Capture for further use without restriction: For you, for your students, for your colleagues, and for the public. The works are given a permanent address (URN) and can therefore be cited without ambiguity.
As books to be digitized on demand, you can request materials
- listed in the University Library’s catalog,
- published before 1900,
- and whose state of preservation allow for digitization.
