Open Research Information—Transparency and Visibility for Your Research Activities

Open research information is key to transparency and the reuse of research in academia, laying the foundation for an open, connected research culture.

Open research information encompasses publicly accessible metadata on research outputs and activities, such as projects, publications, and research data, as well as information about the researchers and institutions involved.

Much of today’s research information is still locked away in closed systems, and in some cases behind paywalls, making it inaccessible to both the research community and the wider public. Open research information, as called for in the Barcelona Declaration on Open Research Information (2024), is a key component of an open and transparent research culture. Based on metadata standards such as KDSF, they make research activities and their broader contexts structured, interoperable, and reusable.

With Gutenberg Research Elements, the University Library provides a research information system that allows you to collect, organize, and consolidate information about your research in one central place. Although the system itself is only accessible to JGU members, it provides a range of options for making your research information openly visible and discoverable through external interfaces.

Publicly Accessible Research Profiles

Gutenberg Research Elements lets you showcase your research information on a public profile page, making your work more visible and easier to discover. Instructions for setting up your research profile can be found in our guide.

Displaying publication data on websites via a WordPress plugin

Publication lists from the research information system can be integrated into JGU websites via a WordPress plugin. Guidance on using the plugin is available in our guide.

Interface to the University Bibliography

The University Bibliography is generated from publication data maintained in the research information system. Through the bibliography, all publications can be searched in a freely accessible index.
