Starting April 13, 2026, the University Medical Library will be fully operational under its Open Library model. The library will be open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., including weekends. The library will be closed on public holidays and during the period between Christmas and New Year’s Day.

Staffed service hours remain unchanged:
Monday–Thursday, 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.; Friday, 8:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m.

Access to the UpToDate database has been discontinued as of April 1, 2026. Due to rising licensing costs, the University Medical Center has decided not to renew its subscription.

PSYNDEX is a bibliographic database of psychological literature and psychological tests from German-speaking countries, produced by the Leibniz Center for Psychology Information (ZPID, Leibniz-Zentrum für Psychologische Information und Dokumentation) in Trier.

As part of a recent database update, the former 7-digit accession numbers (AN) have been replaced with new 32-character alphanumeric identifiers. The previous accession numbers are no longer supported and cannot be used to locate records.

If you have saved searched or results that rely on the former ANs, please review and update them. We recommend locating the affected records by searching for the author, title, or other identifiers such as DOI, ISBN, or ISSN.

The Specialized Information Service for Slavic Studies at the Berlin State Library has licensed four databases that are now available as national licenses to students and reasearchers at JGU.

Especially noteworthy is access to the Ukrainian National Bibliography, which, since 2001, has systematically documented all Ukrainian publications recorded by the Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine in several series.

In addition, users now have access to the online archives of the Moscow-based literary journals Naš Sovremennik (1993-2023) and Znamja (1931-2024), as well as to the series Serija Literatury i Jazyka of Izvestija RAN (1940-2023).

The Pre-clinical study section (classification number 40) has been relocated and is now available in the Learning Center of the Law and Economics Library.

Since December, many e-bboks have been available to you on the Inlibra platform. To access the electronic resources licensed for you, authentication is required. In many cases, authentication occurs automatically when you are connected to the JGU Wi-Fi network and using a VPN connection, as is the case with our other electronic resources (see the ZDV instructions for VPN setup).

If automatic authentication does not work, please follow these steps instead:

2. Click »Login via Shibboleth«
3. Enter »Mainz«
4. Select »Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz«
5. If prompted, click »Allow«
6. Log in as usual via the JGU central authentication page

On public computers in our libraries, authentication via Shibboleth is not required.
