There are some changes coming to the Central Library: We’re setting up a makerspace!
Coming 2027
A makerspace is a place where it’s not just about reading and writing, but also about making. 3D printers, sewing machines, laser cutters, hand tools—everything you need to bring your own ideas to life. Whether it’s for a thesis, a student group event, or simply because you’ve always wanted to learn how to use a 3D printer, the Kalkhof-Rose Creation Space will be a place where you can put your ideas into practice. The focus will be on courses and student projects, but there will also be times when anyone with a library card can use the equipment on their own.

- Electronics: soldering stations, oscilloscope, signal generator ...
- Woodworking: workbench, drilling machine, circular saw ...
- Printing & Painting: airbrush, mini press, screen-printing frame ...
- ... and much more
To make the space accessible regardless of field of study or prior knowledge, we will offer not only seminars and independent work sessions, but also introductory sessions and workshops. There will also be room for individual open events on topics such as “Open Source,” “repair culture,” or “DIY.” The goal is to create a new space where resources and knowledge can be shared alike.
With the new makerspace, our library will become even more versatile and future-oriented. We currently expect to open the space by the winter semester 2027/28. It will be worth the wait! More information will follow on this page.
