From September 7 to 11, there will be some temporary changes and service restrictions at the Law and Economics Library due to moving and construction work.

On Monday and Tuesday, September 7 and 8, anatomical models currently displayed in the collection showcase will be moved to the ground floor of the reading room in the first atrium. This will involve some temporary noise from the moving work and restrictions on the use of some workspaces.

From Tuesday afternoon, September 8, until presumably Friday, September 11, the area around the Information Desk will not be accessible. During this time, the reading room can be accessed from the library foyer via the Learning Center and the courtyard. Signs will indicate the way. Borrowing will only be possible at the self-service terminals during this time. For returns, please use the self-return machines in the Central Library. There will be some noise from flooring work during this period.

From September 9 through 11, 2026, construction work will take place in the passage between the Georg Forster Building and the Central Library. During the construction work, an alternative route will be available.

The anatomical models will be relocated from the Central Library to the Law and Economics Library on September 7–8, 2026.

The last day to borrow the models before the move is Thursday, September 3, 2026.

Starting September 9, 2026, the anatomical models will once again be available at the Law and Economics Library.

On Monday, September 21, 2026, service hours with specialist staff will be limited at some locations.

• Central Library/Circulation Desk: Open starting at 1 p.m.

We now provide access to all available e-books from John Benjamins Publishing Company.

The collections include titles in linguistics, translation studies, and related disciplines, including textbooks, course books, and new publications.

Access is available through August 31, 2027.

Due to renovation and remodeling work, the Academy of Fine Arts Library will be closed from August 24 through September 4, and from September 21 through 25, 2026.

The Mathematics, Computer Science, Natural Sciences, and Technology Library is getting a new door. From now until approximately early October, the library's current entrance and exit will be closed. Please use the clearly marked entrance on the west side of the building.

Unfortunately, some noise is unavoidable, although the work will be carried out as quietly as possible. Thank you for your understanding.

Looking to cool off while you study? USB fans are now available to borrow at the Central Library / Georg Forster Building Library. Just stop by the circulation desk at the Central Library during our regular hours to check one out. If this desk is unstaffed, you can find us at the Georg Forster Building Library desk. Please note that all fans must be returned to the desk by the end of the same day.

Big changes are underway at the Central Library. Reading Room 2 is currently being transformed into a new Makerspace and will therefore be closed for the coming months. Once completed, the space will offer exciting new opportunities for creative, practical, and collaborative learning. 

A Makerspace is a place where learning goes beyond reading and writing and becomes hands-on. Equipped with 3D printers, sewing machines, a laser cutter, hand tools, and more, it will provide the resources needed to turn ideas into reality.
Whether you are developing a project for a course, creating something for a student initiative, or simply interested in learning how to use a 3D printer, the Makerspace will offer a welcoming environment to experiment, design, and build. While the primary focus will be on teaching activities and student projects, there will also be dedicated times when anyone with a library card can use the equipment independently.

This renovation is an important step in making our library even more versatile, innovative, and future-oriented. We believe it will be well worth the wait.
